Arthur Galan at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week - 2009
September 24th 2009 00:00
After attending one of the most hyped up fashion events of the year at the start or September you would think nothing could go wrong...until you saw some of the threads looking a tad unusual...
I won't say they were crimes as the designers involved in 'The Designer Series Show 3' are all impressively renowned for their creativity and edge but I will say some items were unusual...supporting my thoughts were the crowds reactions following peculiar tops or bottoms...
Included in the star studded line-up were bits and pieces from Arthur Galan, Bettina Liano, Jack London, Leopold, Nevenka, Nylon Frock by Nicola Finetti and Wayne Cooper.
This seven part entry discussing the designs of the fashion gods mentioned will leave you with brilliant vivid images and the desire to attend one of these shows in the future - they are amazing
I will start with entry number one: Arthur Galan - AG
Arthur Galan revealed a sea of feminine, pastel colours in contrast to the monochrome and tapered suits for the lads. Loose fitting satin, silk and chiffon frocks dominated the collection with an abundance of floor-length, flowing and paisley gowns - the one exception being a leather halter dress. This halter leather dress was...well what one could describe - a little bit weird. I'll assume it was meant to be in complete contrast with the rest of the collection and it's length certainly drew the crowd's attention.
Peach was a stand-out colour followed by an alternative mix of tie-died floor-length dresses. This was juxtaposed with belted chiffon dresses in jewel colours of emerald and sapphire. Black belts clinching the waist were still the rage. They usually accessorised not only the dresses but also the black strapless, chiffon playsuit that ‘wowed’ the crowd with its simplicity and elegance. Chiffon was interesting choice of material and took the audience back to the 80's, where in the first five minutes of the show - I am not convinced they actually wanted to step back in time. But...as the night went on AG continued his wild goose chase and showcased the male range.
Arthur Galan was impressive when the boys strutted their stuff featuring light grey and white suits with contrasted piping detail on the lapels. At times, blazers were teamed with shorts; otherwise fitted trousers were seen to be the clear winner. The bright printed shirts and ties all attributed to the general consensus that this male collection was much bolder when compared to the female designs. This was a bit of a disappointment considering 90% (that is the biggest guess ever) of the audience were women looking at designs for them...No I would definitely say that the majority of the audience (not a sweeping generalisation in this instance) were women who were all dressed in their Sunday best expecting a vivid array of bright colours to wrap around their body - Didn't happen, but none-the-less it was still a fabulous collection and one I look forward to seeing at a fashion event again
Next up is Bettina Liano so stay tuned!
