Leopold at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2009
November 8th 2009 09:20
Leopold was the next cab off the rank screaming bright and vibrant colours post the Nylon Flock charm!
Leopold was totally in tune with the 80’s and featured oversized double breasted jackets. Not only did the models need a pair of sunnies while strutting their stuff down the runway but so did the audience. The sunnies were out of control BIG!
Bright red was everywhere and was being thrown at us like never before. Opening the show was red, fitted pants that were wrapped around a male model and teamed with a plain white t-shirt.
The inverse followed with the women’s range. White and semi-pleated, high-waisted shorts were placed over deep red strapless swimwear, being pulled off as daywear. This was a concept that confused me. I understand if you are off to the beach and you are still trying to look cool - you strutt your bathers as if they are an item of actual clothing - Leopold did exactly this but it didn't look like the model was about to hit some sand...she was waiting to rip up a day trip on a wine tasting adventure followed by a groove on the d-floor.
A smidgen of black was also incorporated into the show but undoubtedly Leopold’s use of bold colour was a refreshing site amongst a largely white base.
Definitely an interesting collection before Jack London and Wonder Wayne popped out to play!
