OMG – that frock looks awfully familiar!

How do you cope with the worst feeling in the world?... You spend hours getting ready for the big occasion. You spend your week’s worth of pay on a new frock. You buy matching new shoes and an ultra-chic handbag in tow and you even go to the extreme length of trying on your attire numerous times before you hit the town. You get all dolled up, all pretty and slick and leave your dressing room looking like a movie star. The only problem is when you walk into the venue of horror and your life takes a drastic turn for the worst. There, standing in front of you looks like your reflection – only difference is – it’s not you. Who is it then you may ask? Is it your imagination? Is it your mind telling you “wow everyone looks great tonight” or is something much more catastrophic? Is it your worst fear? What could it be…IT IS SOMEONE WEARING THE SAME FROCK AS YOU….Panic, sweaty palms, racing heart beat, gleaming smile (while you die inside), watery eyes and a sudden feeling of hatred are all common reactions to this unbelievable situation. You are standing there looking like a celebrity while another woman has somehow managed to score the same dress as you and thought she would wear it to the same occasion!!! “Noooo” you scream inside your head as you happily greet the woman who you secretly want to stab in the eye using the heel of your newly purchased shoe. (Then you refrain yourself because the shoe is new and you want to wear it again because it is pretty hence the reason why you bought it in the first place). This is a common situation that confronts some women however their coping mechanisms are not up scratch to deal with the situation. When I think about it, I don’t think anybody would know what to do. You would just be extremely pissed off that someone rained on your parade which you had been planning for weeks! It is a very embarassing thing to walk into a room and see someone wearing exactly the same outfit as you – especially if everyone else notices too. Most of us would want to run out the door we came in. In fact that is probably the safest option. However think about this – why should you have to change? You have gone to such extreme lengths to look “hot to trot” and now you have to race to the car in a fit of hysteria- I think not! It is a hard situation but the best thing you should do is try and keep as far away from the copy cat as humanely possible. This does not mean hiding in the powder room all night! However there are other ways to deal with this drastic situation. When conversing with other party-goers and someone mentions you are wearing the same thing as some one else, you could reply with “ohh yessss it is such a lovely outfit”… “doesn’t she look gorgeous in it..” … “she has impeccable taste…”. This way you come across as lovely woman and everything you say also applies to yourself. Look, once you are in this situation it is a bit difficult to escape it so you might as well smile, drink up and make the most of it. You could go for the other extreme which involves malicious intent. This requires the “accidental trip” and the “spilling of your jug of beer” all over the copy cat… "What a disaster" you shriek out loud… “Sorry one too many”, meanwhile you are beaming with joy on the inside. However this way could actually come across as extremely mean and people would know your intentions were evil and that you purposely meant to shower your twin in a brown liquid. You could also have a spare frock just waiting on standby in the car however there are too many pressures associated with this idea. Will all your accessories match the new outfit? Will you look like a further fool strolling in to the venue for round two wearing a new outfit like superman? hey there - money does not grow off trees so will your standby frock be a cheapy? There are just way too many elements to consider. As much as it kills you to see someone wearing the same pretty dress as you, if you are not prepared you will just need to grin and bear it. (Who ever is prepared for such a disaster?) Have a couple of alcoholic beverages and no one will even notice the fashion disaster in the room – not even you! It is a tough time in any woman’s life but unfortunately these things happen! Just make sure you dress to impress for the next gathering and pray to God someone hasn’t stolen that idea too!
