Peep-toes: the name says it all

The most hideous thing I see when I venture outside my cocoon in winter is possibly the most disgusting thing I see during the whole darn season. The wearing of “skin coloured” stockings in peep-toe shoes is clearly a big no-no in the fashion department, yet it amazes me at how many silly chicks actually think it is acceptable. Granted – it’s cold outside, but that does not permit you to look like a fool. Clearly you have disregarded your toes when you slip on your silky smooth or patterned artificial layer of skin. If it is so cold in the real world then why are you letting your poor frozen toes get rained on and freeze? You make absolutely no sense. Peep-toes are meant for exactly that reason – ahh to let your toes peep out. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist – who would probably be a major dag – to work out that your toes are hiding in an ugly pair of ‘neutral’ or skin-coloured type pair of stockings and that in actual fact the stockings would do next-to-nothing to protect them from the harsh elements. The worst offenders obviously have no idea. I was at a 21st last night and one young, buzzing 20-something year old guest was prancing around in what seemed like a dazzling enough outfit. Frocking up in her high-waisted black skirt and elegantly tucking in her white short-sleeved shirt, the jazzed up outfit seemed like a clear winner. However, south of the skirt called for damage control. She wore a black pair of peep-toe shoes, which were quite high and did not look comfortable at all. Stuck to her legs was a pair of skin-coloured stockings. Needless to say – the outfit was ruined. This is what everybody noticed. Not the fact that she was wearing a pretty necklace – just the feral gathering of the bottom of her stockings poking through the front of her peep-toes. Come on girl! I know your feet may not be exposed in every photo but it is not like you were out in the jungle and had to protect yourself from below zero conditions. (not that stockings would do anything to prevent hypothermia). We were in a very warm, cosy function room in a local pub, to the point where every person broke out into a sweat. It looked disgusting. Stockings are meant to be worn inside shoes and if you are exposing them to society without a care in the world, the fashion judge and jury would have a field day with you. You would no doubt be a repeat offender and drastically impact on the recidivism rates for this particular offence. If this young woman felt the chill factor and had to wear some sort of ‘stocking’, perhaps she should have gone for a classic black pair – but a pair which was ¾ in length…I don’t think anymore needs to be said…that is all.
